Shatavari Ghrita Ingredients
As per Bhaishajya Ratnavali, the following are prepared together:
- Gir cow ghee (Go-ghrita), base
- Shatavari root juice / decoction, 2 parts to ghee
- Desi cow milk (Go-dugdh), 2 parts to ghee
- Kalka (herbal paste) of 12 herbs, equal parts: Jeevak, Rishabhak, Meda, Mahameda, Kakoli, Ksheerkakoli, Mridvika (Munakka / raisin), Madhuk (Mulethi / licorice), Mudgaparni, Mashaparni, Vidarikand and Rakta Chandan (red sandalwood)
- Sharkara (mishri) and Madhu (honey), added after the ghee cools
How Goseva Makes Shatavari Ghrita
- The Gir cow ghee is first purified (murchhana).
- Fresh Shatavari juice and the 12-herb paste, ground by hand on a stone sil, are added and cooked on a low flame.
- When the juice dries, cow milk and water are added and slow-cooked for hours until only the ghee and the herbal properties remain.
- The ghee is tested for correct paak (siddhi lakshan), then filtered through cloth.
- Mishri and honey are mixed in once it cools, and it is stored in glass.
Each batch takes about 3 days. For a 5 kg batch, we use 10 kg of fresh Shatavari juice and 10 litres of Gir cow milk.
