How to use Gir cow ghee
Add it to warm dal, khichdi, rice or rotis for flavour and aroma. It can also be used in everyday cooking and traditional sweets according to your taste.
- Smoke point around 250 °C (480 °F): suitable for tadka, frying and roasting without burning.
- Use in place of refined oil for sautéing; a little goes a long way.
- Traditional uses: a spoon in warm milk at night, on chapatis for children, in sweets and prasad.
Storage tips
- Keep the lid tightly closed and always use a clean, dry spoon.
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and the stove.
- Do not let water or wet food get into the jar.
- Refrigeration is not required; if refrigerated, the ghee hardens and softens again within a few minutes at room temperature.

Frequently asked questions
What is special about Goseva’s Gir cow ghee?
Our Gir cows graze on Goseva’s land, and we prepare the ghee in small batches with a wooden bilona. The April 2026 lab report linked above lets you inspect the results for one specified 500ml sample.
Which pack size can I buy?
Choose from 250ml, 500ml and 1000ml glass jars, a 5000ml steel dolchi, or a 5-bottle or 10-bottle pack of 1000ml for families and gifting. Select a size above for its current price and availability.
Can I order from outside India?
International delivery is offered. Enter your delivery country during checkout to see the available options for your order.
Is this A2 ghee? How is A2 different from A1?
Gir is an indigenous (desi) Indian breed whose milk naturally contains the A2 type of beta-casein protein. Goseva ghee is made only from the milk of our own Gir cows. Much commercial ghee comes from mixed or crossbreed herds and may contain A1 protein.
Bilona ghee vs regular ghee – what is the difference?
Regular ghee is made by separating cream from milk in a machine and heating it. Bilona ghee is made the traditional way: milk is set into curd, the curd is hand-churned with a wooden bilona to get makkhan, and the makkhan is slowly heated into ghee. It takes about 25–30 litres of milk and much more time to make 1 kg, which is why it costs more and tastes different.
Why is the colour or texture different from my last jar?
Gir cow ghee is naturally golden and grainy, and it turns semi-solid in winter. Colour, aroma and graininess vary a little with the season, the cows’ fodder and the batch, because nothing is added to standardise them.
Does it contain lactose or casein?
Milk solids are removed during ghee-making, so only trace amounts remain. Many lactose-intolerant people tolerate ghee well, but if you have a diagnosed milk allergy, please consult your doctor first.
Can I use this ghee on a keto or low-carb diet?
Yes. Ghee is almost pure fat with no carbohydrates, so it fits keto, paleo and low-carb diets.
What is the shelf life, and where is the date on the jar?
The shelf life is 9 months from the manufacturing date. The manufacturing date and batch number are printed on the label.
How should I store ghee?
At room temperature with the lid closed, away from sunlight, using a clean, dry spoon. It does not need refrigeration.
What is your return and replacement policy?
As a food product, opened jars cannot be returned. If a jar arrives damaged, leaking or incorrect, send us photos on WhatsApp within 7 days of delivery and we will replace it. See the returns and refunds policy for details.
